BOB SMITH TROPHY
FIRST PRESENTED 1978
Presented to the person the club members feel has contributed most during the season. This can be a player, an administrator or indeed, socially.
Bob Smith played for the club for some 15 years during the 1960’s and 1970’s. Born in Yorkshire, Bob loved his cricket and played throughout his life. A larger than life character he kept wicket all through his Greenheath career ‘standing up’ to all but the quickest of bowlers. He took a record number of stumpings, 136, many off his pads (and other areas of his body). Bowlers did not dare bowl down the legside with Bob keeping,
if they did they knew they would feel the rough edge of his tongue.
The trophy was presented by Bob’s widow following his sudden and tragic death whilst batting for Greenheath against Old Williamsonians at Rochester in 1978.
